The people of Bournemouth have had their say on water bills increasing.

It was announced today that Bournemouth will face a 32% increase for bills.

Local resident, 38-year-old Marlene Whitters, said that she is “scared” following the decision.

She said: “It’s ridiculous how much the price of everything is and could impact us.”

She added: “I don’t want to use water unnecessarily. I’m going to have to make sacrifices and not use the tap as often, maybe even reuse water where I can.”

This is a national issue that affects many areas across England and Wales.

More than 2.5 million people are already in debt with their water companies, before the increase will be put into place in April.

Personal usage will be considered into water companies bills and will fluctuate depending on how much a customer is using.

Marlene shared that she will “have to stop having baths.”

She finalised her statement where she said: “I only have ten-minute showers. I’m going to have to cut that down even more than I do.”
