Bournemouth have been on a rampant winning run in the Regional 2 South Central League, and face fellow high-flyers Winchester this upcoming weekend.
They come off the back of a 78-0 thrashing of Newbury, and sit in 2nd place, now buoyed by the prospect of winning the league.
Having just come off the back of relegation last campaign, everyone at the club is in full belief that Bournemouth will make a swift return to the Regional 1 South Central League.
Club captain Grant Hancox spoke about the recent match against Newbury and how the team needs to be focused ahead of such a big match.
“Massive credit goes out to the lads for standing firm and ensuring a clean sheet in the dying minutes against Newbury.
“The mentality is so strong at the moment that despite leading by such a flattering scoreline, we will never give in.”
Looking ahead to the Winchester game on Saturday, Hancox said: “It’s a hugely anticipated fixture.
“I know that they have equally commented on how important it is, and it feels like a big cup final for both of us.”
Winchester sit 3rd in the league, just two points behind Bournemouth, who lie just one point behind leaders Farnham having played a game more.
The signing of experienced veteran Greg Tonks will add calmness to the Bournemouth squad, and Hancox is excited for the impact he’ll bring.
“I think the great thing about Greg is that he’s hugely relatable – he’s not a has been.
He’s got a ton of experience across the National Leagues over the last few years, and has brought a different outlook to the game.”
Bournemouth will be hoping to rely on his character for the remainder of the season as they look to secure the title, and a win against Saturday’s opponents Winchester will go a long way to achieve that.
