A care assistant who sexually assaulted a woman in her own home in June has been sentenced to 12 years in prison at Bournemouth Crown Court.
Angelo Regis, 37, of Bridport admitted charges of attempted rape, sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault by touching on Friday 31st January.
He visited the victim, a woman in her 80s, at her home as part of a care package.
Mr Regis then locked himself in the bathroom with the victim, before sexually assaulting and then attempting to rape her in her bedroom.
He was arrested on Thursday 6th June 2024, after the vulnerable victim reported the incident.
Mr Regis denied the offences in interview and detectives subsequently obtained DNA evidence linking him to the offence. He was charged the following day.
Detective Constable Lucy Johnson, of Dorset Police County Safeguarding Hub, said: “I want to thank the victim for her support during this investigation and praise her for the strength she has shown in coming forward and reporting this matter.
“Angelo Regis took advantage of his position and the vulnerabilities of his victim to subject her to a truly terrifying and horrific sexual assault.
“I hope this case demonstrates that we will do all we can to investigate offences of this nature and hold offenders accountable for their actions and that we will ensure victims are fully supported throughout.
“I also want to thank the Crown Prosecution Service and partner agencies for their continued support during the police Investigation and prosecution.”
