Diverse Abilities, a disability charity supporting children and adults with profound physical and learning disabilities, has been given an 11,574 pound donation from The Christchurch Magdalen
Trust.

The charity deliver a respite service in Hurn called The Treehouse, where families are supported with the option of short break sessions where their child will be cared for by volunteers. There are also services available for families and siblings, to ensure everyone gets the support they need.

The generous donation will provide 100 four-hour sessions for the families who utilise The Treehouse living in Christchurch.

Becky Edwards, volunteers executive, told us how transformative the grant will be to the centre and families.

“This just means that the children will be able to get the support they need, the families will be able to go to our family support services- they’ll be able to ask questions and meet other parents.

“We’re also now able to run sessions for the siblings, so they can meet people like them and have some time away from that immediate family unit.”

The trust’s donation has acted as a ‘lifeline’ for The Treehouse, with Georgie Taylor, Diverse Abilities’ volunteer, saying the grant has been incredible and will help so many families.
