Dojo aims to inspire local youth

A local martial arts organisation is on a mission – to build up the confidence of its members.

Inner Strength Martial Arts Academy operates in a number of areas across Dorset, including Muscliff, Glenmoor & Winton, and St Ives & St Leonards, with members ranging in age from 4-66.

It is primarily operated by Shaun Lanham, a 7th Dan in karate, who has been involved in martial arts for 36 years – and wants to pass his experience to the next generation:

“With a black belt, it takes you far in the job scenario, and in the Uni scenario.

It helps you massively

We look at everybody individually – we don’t teach as a group,

So as long they keep getting better, and keep learning more stuff, and keep learning to be more confidence, that’s the main aim.

If someone walks around and attacks them – they can defend themselves a little bit.”

The other instructors in the academy are Sensei Vicky Shurey and Sensei Andy Whitehead, who bring a wealth of experience to the various dojos.
