Recently reinstated President of the United States, Donald Trump, has said he has “signed a full and unconditional pardon for Ross Ulbricht” who operated dark web business Silk Road where illegal drugs were being sold.
Convicted in 2015, Ulbricht was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty in a narcotics and money laundering conspiracy.
Shut down in 2013, Silk Road sold more than £131 million pounds worth of drugs and was estimated to help over 4000 drug dealers to expand their networks.
Posting on his social media, President Trump stated: “he scum that worked to convict him were some of the same lunatics who were involved in the modern day weaponisation of government against me, he was given two life sentences, plus 40 years. Ridiculous!”
Ulbricht’s lawyer, Joshua Dratel, said in a release that Ulbricht is: “extremely gratified that an injustice has been corrected”.
