Eastleigh FC edge closer to playoffs after defeating Solihull Moors

Eastleigh FC were victorious in a 1-0 away win over Solihull Moors at the ARMCO Arena yesterday evening, in what was a Vanarama National League playoff clash.

The win sees the away side climb up to 10th in the league, only three points behind their opposition last night who remain in 6th.

Manager Kelvin Davis and the Spitfires have now celebrated two wins against the Moors this season, after they beat them 2-1 in the reverse league fixture.

Former Moors player Tyrese Shade’s early goal proved to be enough to earn Eastleigh the three points, in what was back and forth affair between the two sides.

This result means that Eastleigh are now undefeated in their last nine matches and Solihull’s run of three consecutive wins comes to an end.

For the Spitfires, this was their first clean sheet in five matchdays, which manager Davis was proud of.

In a post-match interview for the Eastleigh FC social media accounts, Davis said: “We speak a lot about our efforts in defending our goal, it was a night for those defensive actions higher up the pitch to protect us.

“We were pleased with the team performance without the ball and the opportunities in transition in the final third.”

The game started brightly for Eastleigh, summer signing Shade bundled the ball into the net within in 10 minutes, to give the away side the lead.

Although Solihull went behind early on, they hit back with some chances of their own.

Jack Finlay Stevens, who is one of the top goal scorers in the league, could not convert his chances early on, as he was denied by Joe McDonnell in the Eastleigh Net from a close-range header.

Conor Wilkinson who was considered to be a threat to the Hampshire based side was kept quiet by the Eastleigh defence.

Chris Maguire could have doubled the Spitfire lead, but spurned his shot keeping the game close at 1-0.

Moors loanee Fletcher Holman, from Wolves, was electric off the bench as he looked to be the one to bring Solihull back into the game but despite his efforts, the away side went back to Hampshire with the three points.

Solihull will now set their sights onto an away trip to Braintree, whilst Eastleigh FC will be looking to continue this run of form against another promotion chaser in Altrincham.
