Emma Raducanu defeated Amanda Anisimova in the second round of the Australian Open in the early hours of this morning, to set up a clash with world number two Iga Swiatek on Saturday.
The former US Open champion won 6-3, 7-5 coming back from breaks in each set against the 35th ranked in the world.
Raducanu battled through the match with a lower back injury which needed treatment, an issue that has been troubling the star since Christmas.
She said: “I was able to push past some pain today but I’m going to try and recover as best as possible.”
This is the first time the Briton has reached the third round in the Australian open, she faces Iga Swiatek on Saturday.
However, the five-time grand slam champion has recently been involved in doping controversy.
The Polish star served a one month ban over December after testing positive for a banned substance.
The drug she tested positive for in August was a substance called Trimetazidine (TMZ) which is a heart medication.
The news has since caused controversy as more players are getting caught up in doping scandals, sparking criticism from fellow players.
She spoke to ‘InsideTheGames’: “It was probably the worst time in my life.”
The clash is set to be played on Saturday; a time is to be announced over the next couple of days.
The two have faced each other three times, Swiatek winning all three matches, one on clay and two on hard courts.
Raducanu now has a chance to win against the world number two and reach the fourth round of the Australian Open for the first time.
