After claiming the death of his daughter was an accident, Simon Vickers has been found guilty of murdering his own daughter at their home in Darlington.
14-year-old Scarlett died following a stab wound through the heart with a kitchen knife on Friday 5th July.
When making the 999 call, Scarlett’s mother Sarah Hall told the operator the pair had been messing around.
Mr Vickers originally told the police the knife was thrown by mistake, and believed he had something else in his hand.
When giving evidence the story changed, and Mr Vickers said he swiped the knife along the surface.
During the 10 day trial the jury rejected Mr Vickers emotive testimony, explaining he would never harm his daughter.
Ms Hall stood by her husband during the trial held at Teeside Crown Court, and denied he had done this intentionally.
The jury took a total of 13 hours and 21 minutes and then made the decision convicting the father of murder.
The decision was a 10-2 choice, with 2 members of the jury believing it was manslaughter.
The trial judge has decided to sentence Mr Vickers on the 10th Feburary.
