LATEST: Flooding – will you be affected?

January 29, 2025 //  by Ashleigh Cullis

Flooding in Iford this morning - taken by Tasha Watts.

Occupants of a residential park in Iford were evacuated overnight, following rapidly rising river levels.

After Storm Eowyn and Storm Herminia, the houses at Iford Bridge Home Park, next to the River Stour, were in danger.

The Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council advised people to evacuate the area as a precaution after the site’s mains electricity was cut off last night.

There is still a flood warning in effect.

According to the BCP Council, workers were on site at Iford Bridge Home Park to ensure the safety and assistance of residents who had made the decision to stay in their homes.

The council has said that mains electricity will not be restored at the location until it is safe to do so.

It also stated that it would keep helping the residents today and, in the days, ahead.

After significant rainfall brought on by Storm Bert in November, the river breached its banks, causing flooding for the locals for the second time in recent months.

Twelve people and four pets were rescued by firefighters from their flooded cottages in the park close to Bournemouth.

Dorset is currently under 13 flood warnings.

When there is a flood warning, outsiders should evacuate their family and pets to a safe location, transfer their cars to higher ground, switch off the water, gas and electricity and, if possible, install flood protection.
