Dorset-based health and wellbeing brand Hempe has introduced the world’s first and only National Sanitation Foundation (NSF)-certified CBD gel—a groundbreaking step in legitimising CBD for high-performance sports and military applications.
Hempe offers multiple products including a hot gel and an ice gel designed for athletes to use before and after sport providing relief from aches and sore muscles.
The NSF, an independent organisation specialising in product safety and sanitation certification, ensures that CBD and Hempe products meet the standards, verifying label claims and guaranteeing the absence of harmful contaminants.
This certification is crucial for athletes, as some CBD products may contain traces of banned cannabinoids, leading to potential doping violations.
Hempe, owned by Health International Research (HIR), prioritises a scientific approach in product development.
CEO Farard Darver highlighted the process behind their CBD gel: “Anyone can add CBD to a generic gel and call it ‘CBD gel,’ but we broke it down to the molecular level.
“Using vitro studies, we carefully formulated it with natural ingredients to get exactly the results we wanted.”
Wimborne-based Hempe’s CBD gel is 100% natural, featuring menthol, peppermint oil, pinus sylvestris oil, and vitamin E, with no parabens or petroleum.
The product’s development was inspired by Hempe’s founder, a former military serviceman who turned to CBD after sustaining a serious injury.
“I tried different medications for pain relief, but nothing worked.
“I wanted a more natural solution.
“A friend introduced me to CBD and I started researching its benefits, then using it and I experienced great results.
“That’s when I knew this needed to be more accessible.”
With its NSF certification and commitment to quality, Hempe’s CBD gel sets a new standard for safe and effective CBD use in professional sports and beyond.
To further reinforce its credibility, the company has enlisted high-profile athletes, including Magnús Ver Magnússon, Dan Severn, Kenneth Wheeler, and Tomáš Souček, as ambassadors.
Their involvement highlights the growing acceptance of CBD in sports recovery and performance.
Darver said, “The best way to prove a product is verified and safe for sports is by having athletes use it—professionals wouldn’t risk their careers on something that isn’t fully compliant.”
This alignment with elite athletes not only validates the product but also helps build confidence among others looking for trusted, science-backed recovery solutions.
As the demand for natural and effective alternatives grows, the scientifically backed CBD products will ensure that athletes of all levels can trust safety, quality and effectiveness.
