Human remains found in Sussex believed to be missing Dorset man

Human remains have been found in Sussex and are believed to belong to missing Dorset man Mark Smith.

The 51-year-old was last seen at 6pm on 18th December in the Holt area.

His vehicle was located two days later in the Durlston area of Swanage.

The remains were discovered at around 8pm on 27th January.

Dorset Police confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Mark’s next of kin have been informed, and police have offered their condolences.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “There are no suspicious circumstances and his next of kin have been informed. Our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time.

“We would like to thank everyone involved in the initial searches, including HM Coastguard, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service and volunteers from Dorset Search and Rescue.”
