A six day inquiry began today regarding a price increase on the Sandbanks Ferry service, which runs from Sandbanks to Studland, in Dorset.
The current fare price is one pound for pedestrians, cyclists and motorbikes, £5.30 for cars and £10.60 for buses and lorries.
The proposed price increase will see cars paying almost a pound more to use the ferry, and buses and lorries will pay £1.92 more for the same fare.
“As an academic and a lawyer, I would suggest that there’s questions to be asked here,” said Marina Hamilton, a Sandbanks Resident who uses the ferry every week.
Kevin Gleeson, the newly appointed planning developer, is in charge of the decision.
He said that the revenue raised from the price increase will go towards plans to purchase a new ferry in 2032.
The inquiry will end on Wednesday the 29th, with guest speakers from the local council, national trust and South Dorset MP Lloyd Hatton giving evidence for the dispute.
