Kraft stepping down shows Šolak ‘wants to give Premier League survival one last crack’

BBC Radio Solent commentator Rob Sills believes the news that Henrik Kraft is stepping down as Southampton FC Chairman proves that Dragan Šolak “wants to give Premier League survival one last crack.”

It was announced yesterday lunchtime that Kraft would not be continuing in his role as Chairman, with Šolak expressing his displeasure at the Saints’ Premier League results this season in a club statement.

Sills said: “I think at this stage changes were needed.

“Recruitment hasn’t been good enough for the Saints for some time now, and its all sort of catching up with them a bit.

“Šolak wants to take it in a slightly different direction, he wants to give Premier League survival one final crack.”

Sills also thinks that Šolak wants more control of the club, he said: “It’s his money going into the club, so he wants to oversee what that money is going towards.

“It will be interesting to see what his next move is, whether he brings in a Director of Football, as that’s still something the Saints don’t have.

“We’ll see whether Dragan gets his hands dirty a bit and starts to take even more control of the club.”

Saints podcaster Martin Sanders agrees that a change was needed, he said: “I wasn’t surprised to see Henrik step down.

“He was genuinely a really nice guy, but he clearly wasn’t a football man, and the board need football people in the building.

“I think Sport Republic have got a lot right off the pitch, but on the field its been nothing short of a disaster.

“Šolak is not happy with how things have gone on the field and rightly so.”
