League phase comes to a close in the UEFA Champions League

January 29, 2025 //  by Ryan Duggan

Tonight marks the final and decisive matchday of the UEFA Champions league, with all 36 teams set to be in action at the same time.

It is set up to be the wildest night in Champions League history as it marks the first time all 36 qualified teams will face off at the same time.

The newly introduced league format aimed to increase entertainment and top teams clashing has left plenty of room for shock exits for teams including Premier League Champions Manchester City.

They must beat Belgian side Club Brugge at the Etihad Stadium to advance to the knockout stages.

Pep Guardiola’s side currently sit 25th in the league table and are winless in their last 4 UCL matches.

In contrast, Unai Emery’s Aston Villa could secure automatic qualification to the last 16 with a win over Celtic.

The Scottish Champions have already ensured their place in the next round so all pressure will be on the home side who will be relying on other results to know their destiny.

Meanwhile, Liverpool can wrap up a flawless Champions League campaign if they defeat PSV Eindhoven later tonight.

Red’s manager Arne Slot will be keen to get the better of his former counterparts after leaving Feyenoord in May last year.

Arsenal are all but automatically through as they travel to Girona.
