A round of the National Youth Omnium Series will take place at Slade’s Farm Velodrome this June.
The series is run by Poole Wheelers and displays some of the best young track cyclists in Great Britain.
Jonathan Terry, who is organising the event, believes it will bring a big boost to cycling in the region.
“We are bringing a big event to the area, to be able to show younger cyclists the standard and how good it is to be able to do cycling.
“It’s a big deal really, we will attract some of the best young cyclists from around the country.”
Eight events will take place across the UK between March and May, arriving in Poole on Saturday the 7th of June.
Points gathered from the events will be totalled, with a final scheduled in July at the Lee Valley Velodrome in London.
Jamie Whitcher is a local cyclist who finished fourth at the series in 2018, and is grateful for the facility nearby.
Whitcher said: “Slade Farm has produced riders that are now training for the next Olympics.
“It’s an amazing thing to have, certainly for me as well.”
Isabel Sharp, Alistair Fielding and Rebecca Raybould are all riders that have used the facility who now compete at the top of their sport.
The round in Poole is the first chance to see the next generation of local riders compete at a national level.
