After nearly eight long years, the wildly successful Nintendo Switch will be replaced by a new console.
The aptly-named Switch 2 will keep the handheld element that made the original so popular.
The details of what’s changing with the new console remain a secret, but the public will get the chance to try it for themselves later this year.
There will be an event from April 11-13th in London in which the console will be tested by the public, and fans are already excited.
Edd Church organises Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournaments in Bournemouth, which is a staple Nintendo game that came out all the way back in 2018.
He says he’s “cautiously optimistic for the new console.”
“The [original] Switch is feeling really dated now: it has poor performance on newer games, limited local network capabilities, and lacks many bits of online functionality that most modern consoles have.”
“My biggest hope is for the games though. As a huge fan of fighting games, the prospect of a new Smash Bros. game is really exciting.
“I’d also love for some other games in the genre to come to the Switch 2, like Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8.”
This announcement is long overdue in the eyes of many Nintendo fans, and any new announcements for the new console are guaranteed to excite.
