Poole Museum unveils latest exhibition: Men of Iron

January 15, 2025 //  by Ethan Hoskin

The Lighthouse in Poole has opened its newest collection that aims to honour Poole’s foundry workers, 40 years since it’s closure.

The project “Men of Iron” initially began in 1985, led by Geoff Drury – a teacher from Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design.

Drury had tasked his students to capture how the foundry operated, the machinery involved and the commitment of the workers.

As the foundry closed its doors in the 1985 the photos taken served as tributes to those men and women who had been at the heart of Poole’s industrial heritage.

Forty years since it’s closure, the Poole Museum is rejuvenating the exhibition and will include artefacts such as gears, casts and mouldings, as well as interviews with original photographers from 1985.

The exhibition will be free to enter 10am – 8pm until February 22nd 2025.
