Portsmouth are out of the relegation zone after a 3-1 win

Portsmouth FC have won back-to-back games at Fratton Park, meaning they have soared out of the relegation zone and up to 18th of the Championship.

Clinical in attack and steady in defensive last night, a crucial three points for Pompey has meant they have reached 29 points for the season, leap-frogging last nights opponents.

A penalty in the 5th minute gave the host the lead early on, Colby Bishop showed no doubt when taking the spot kick converting his shot into the top left corner.

Pompey were not settling for the one goal advantage doubling up after capitalising on their momentum.

A long goal kick left unclaimed in the Stoke half, the Potters were all at sea at the back, Callum Lang was first to the bouncing ball, just inside Stoke’s 18 yard box, and headed a neat finish over the keeper and into the empty net.

The visitors controlled large portions of the game but never looked to be a threat to the Portsmouth defence, however they managed to nick a goal back in the 29th minute of the game.

Centre half Ben Wilmot scored a headed goal, following a clever short corner routine left him unmarked at the back post firing a shot across the goal which left keeper Nicolas Schmid with little he could do.

The game 2-1 at half-time looked like it could go either way, with both teams in desperate need of the three points it was everything to lose.

But the hosts, as they did in the first half, started very quickly, scoring a goal early after the break.

A good cross from a corner gave fullback Connor Ogilvie an easy finish in the 49th minute, after the Potters failed yet again to clear a loose ball.

With the two goal advantage restored the hosts were able to see out the rest of the game with ease, meaning it’s 2 wins, 6 points in 4 days for Pompey.
