Bournemouth’s Town Pastors journey in the dead of night every Saturday to aid the people of Bournemouth.
They say some heroes don’t wear capes, and for Chris and Garry McDermott this is true.
They have been working on the streets of Bournemouth every Saturday aiding individuals who may have lost their way.
From drunk and disorderly individuals to people lonely on the street, the street pastors are willing to tackle any issue.
“We started this movement six or seven years ago in Cambridge and after moving away, we found out that Bournemouth had no Street Pastors.” Chris said.
“We felt the night-time economy in Bournemouth was in dire need of our help and we believed God was on our side pushing us to do this.” She added.
After this realisation the couple decided to launch the Bournemouth Town Pastors in 2017, with Cameo nightclub being their first major contact giving them a ‘quiet room’.
With financial aid from AFC Bournemouth, the couple were able to invest large amounts of money into equipment to better their services.
The relationship from many Bournemouth organisations led to major representatives getting involved.
The mayor of Bournemouth at the time, Edward Earnest Bishop and representatives from many churches around the area helped the street pastors gain traction.
