Weymouth FC host Sturminster Newton United at the Bob Lucas Stadium in tonight’s Dorset Senior Cup semi-final fixture.
In the previous round, the Terras overcame Wimborne 3-0, and Sturminster caused a massive upset away at Dorchester Town, beating the Magpies in a penalty shootout.
Form is on the side of Sturminster, they’ve won three of their past four league games in the Western Football League Division One.
On the other hand, despite Weymouth’s National League South status, the Terras are winless in their past seven league games.
The Dorset Senior Challenge Cup is the most premier county cup competition within Dorset and has been contested every year since 1887.
All Dorset affiliated teams that play at Step 6, which is Division One of either the Western or Wessex Leagues and above, enter the competition.
Dorset Football Association’s Football Services Officer, Colin Chainey said: “The Dorset Senior Challenge Cup is the Dorset County FA’s Senior County Cup Competition, first played for in the 1887-88 season when Weymouth College beat Dorchester Town by a single goal to nil.
“All Dorset affiliated teams that play at Step 6 and above enter the Dorset Senior Challenge Cup.
“The Dorset teams at step 6 and 7 love playing against the Dorset teams in the Southern League and above.”
The winner of tonight’s game will come up against current DSC holder’s Hamworthy Recreation or Step 4 side Shaftesbury.
A date for the 24/25 Dorset Senior Cup final has also been confirmed by Chainey, he said: “The Dorset Senior Cup Final is scheduled to be played on either 11 or 12 March, either at a neutral ground, or the finalists to toss for choice of venue.
“This will be discussed at the DCFA Governance Committee scheduled for Thursday 23 January.”
Tonight’s semi-final between Weymouth and Sturminster will kick off at 7:45pm.
