One of Superdrug’s Bournemouth stores has officially closed its doors.
The retailer, located on Commercial Road in Bournemouth town centre, was shut on January 18th.
This date was a sad day for local shoppers, as it closed on the same day as WHSmith.
The two closures happened less than 600ft away from each other in the town centre.
The retailers join the surge in shop closures that are surrounding Bournemouth square. Just two units down, The Body Shop closed at the end of 2024, as well as pizza restaurant Wildwood on Richmond Hill.
Local shopper, James Lansdale says he is “disappointed” to see more closures happen in Bournemouth.
He says: “I’m sad to see another hit for the high street.”
He added: “I understand why stores are having to close, town business rates are getting higher with no help from the government.”
There is no news on nearby Superdrug’s Winton and Castlepoint closing their stores.
On top of leisure use, the closure of Superdrug also includes no access to their pharmacy.
Similarly, WHSmith’s closure has taken away residents’ access to their nearest Post Office.
There is hope for new businesses to fill vacant units, as a brand-new Pandora filled the recently closed ‘The Body Shop’.
This comes under the government’s “High Street Rental Auctions” scheme, where the council are permitted to intervene to encourage new businesses to fill empty units.
