Weymouth FC manager, Warren Feeney, has hinted that the Terras will field a strong team in the Dorset Senior Cup final.

Feeney, who was appointed manager in December, celebrated a youthful squad which defeated Sturminster Newton United in one of two semi-finals played last night.

Goals from Keelan O’Connell, Ben Moss and Euan Pollock sealed a 3-1 win against a side who had knocked out Dorchester Town after a penalty shootout in the previous round.

Looking forward to the final, Feeney alluded to the prospect of playing a much stronger side to the one seen last night, he said, “When you’re in it, you want to go and win it and we’ll be doing all we can to win this cup.

“It’s a game where we’ll be going strong to go and win the cup.”

The other semi-final was decided from the penalty spot, as Wessex League side Hamworthy Recreation prospered over Shaftesbury, which followed a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes.

The final against Recreation is due to be played on either 11th or 12th March, with a confirmed date and venue due from Dorset FA after the 23rd January.

Looking forward

It’s been tough for supporters at the Bob Lucas Stadium this season, as Weymouth find themselves in last place on 15 points, 11 points from safety.

Out of their opening 25 games, Weymouth have accumulated only two wins, none of which have come under Feeney’s tenure.

On their current form, Feeney said, “You can see the boys are fighting.

“I think they have been done by one or two lapses of concentration, but you can’t say in the last lot of games we haven’t been competitive.”

The Weymouth boss insisted that the team are focused, and stated that they are not allowing the pressure of a relegation fight affect their spirits.

On the battle, Feeney said, “There’s no pressure. Let people worry about it on the outside, all we can worry about is what’s in front of us.”

Next up for the Terras in the National League South is a trip to 7th placed Worthing, who are currently unbeaten in their last eight games.

On that tough task, Feeney said, “Worthing’s a phenomenal team, they play very good football, probably the best in the division, they are where they are for a reason and I’m full of respect for them.”

About Oli Headington

I've always been absolutely football mad. Growing up in Essex, I had a great selection of local league and non-league sides which I could go and watch every weekend, and have developed a love for non-league football as well as support for Chelmsford City.
