Wimborne looking to extend unbeaten run

Wimborne Town are set to face Taunton Town FC this weekend as they aim to “make the top half of the table” with a strong back end of the season.

Wimborne will travel to Wordsworth Drive this weekend, hoping they can change their fortunes away from home, having won only two of their ten away games this season.

The Magpies will be looking to recreate their performance from back in November, one that saw them defeat Taunton three nil with Matty Burrows netting two.

Opposition Taunton are on an unbeaten run of their own, winning four out of their six games. Taunton have not lost since mid-December, a period where teams often struggle to pick up form with a heavy run of fixtures.

What was a good start for Wimborne winning their first two games, quickly took a turn as The Magpies went three games without a win and failing to score.

“I think we started well; it can give you a bit of false confidence… thinking this is easier than we thought,” said Captain Sam Jackson.

A season that has lacked a run of form, leaves Wimborne sitting in 15th, 12 points off the playoffs with games in hand.

“This is the biggest standard increase that I’ve experienced in a promotion,” said Tim Sills.

The jump to step three is difficult for teams to adjust to, “You lose concentration for five minutes and you’ll get punished”.

Looking ahead to the rest of the season, Wimborne Town will be looking to extend their unbeaten run of three games.

With three games in ten days, Wimborne have a chance to string a real run of form and make a late push to try and finish in the top half of the table.
