The Bournemouth music scene has felt a breath of fresh air, as local titans, CHIG, have announced they are working on their debut album.
The band rose to prominence in late 2023 with their juggernaut single, Joy, which has now amassed over 1 million streams on Spotify.
The LP will be titled PRESCRIBED AS PREY, and will re-trace the same themes previously established while also diving into newer sounds.
With the release of the album, the quintette plan to use the project to “shop around” for a new label.
It has been hinted that the album will feature both lush, reverb-drenched textures and moments of raw intensity, reflecting their evolving artistry.
The album is said to have an “early shoegaze sound” while keeping the established sound from previous releases.
Maximillion Winthrop Wallace, bassist for the band, said during an interview: “we drew a lot of influence from bands such as Slowdive and my bloody valentine“.
Winthrop Wallace, shared the progress the band has made in regards to the album “its 90-95% finished.”
The album is said to reflect the “raw emotion and layered fuzzy guitars” that CHIG is known for in both the studio and on the stage.
Recently returning from a show in London, the band were ecstatic with the crowd reaction to some of the new songs.
“The show was amazing” Winthrop Wallace stated, “the audience were super lively… everyone was moving and having a good time”.
The band will be playing in London again in November, at the Black Heart, before returning to Bournemouth for a homecoming show.
A slew of singles will be released before the album drops, with the first being expected to drop in early 2026.
“We want to build as much anticipation as possible.”
A tour is yet to be announced, with Winthrop Wallace exclaiming “we haven’t planned a tour yet, however we are very interested in doing one, especially nationally”.
PRESCRIBED AS PREY is slated to release in early 2026, with the band showing no intentions of slowing down.
