Bournemouth Poppies to welcome Wincanton Town in Wessex League clash

Bournemouth will look to make it two wins in a row as they prepare to face Wincanton Town in Saturday’s Wessex League Premier Division clash.

The Poppies won their first game since August in emphatic fashion last week as they beat Hythe & Dibden 3-0, bouncing back from their 7-0 defeat against Baffins Milton Rovers in the league cup days prior.

Wincanton make the journey to Victoria Park as the lowest placed team in the division as they 20th in the table on four points and are yet to pick up a win.

Despite this, the Wasps have won two of their last three games, with wins against Brislington FC and Hamworthy Recreation in the Somerset FA County Cup and League Cup respectively.

Bournemouth’s lineup against Hythe saw multiple changes from their defeat against Baffins, with keeper Oliver Plunkett and centre back Joshua Rose returned to help the defence as Emmanuel Ohameje was played in his preferred position at right back.

Most notably, manager Phill Brown picked a new-look midfield as Rhys Taylor and Lewis Brown started alongside captain Tyrone Carkeet.

Lewis Brown earned his spot on the scoresheet, with a late goal to secure the three points for the Poppies.

Poppies boss Phill Brown will likely set the team as the same one that faced Hythe, although Taylor and Carkeet could have a different midfield partner alongside them if Lewis Brown secures a move higher up the divisions prior to Saturday’s game.

Right back Hamza Tallal could also feature as he is expected to make his return from injury in the following weeks.

A win for Bournemouth could see them rise to 8th in the table, only behind 7th placed Baffins on goal difference; however, Christchurch would need to drop points this weekend as they face Laverstock & Ford.
