As the spookiest night of the year commences this weekend, Dorset Police have put forward a statement for the safety of its residents.
From trick or treating to Halloween parties, lots of people are looking forward to celebrating the holiday.
However, Dorset Police published their yearly reminder that not everyone is excited by the festivities and may find the night distressing.
Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Police Commander Heather Dixey said: “In these darker nights, we want everyone to stay safe.
“In recent years we’ve seen an increase in the number of people participating in Halloween fun.”
Advice has been given when trick or treating to only approach houses if they are decorated and well lit, have adults accompany young children, and watch out for drivers as they may not see people walking in the darkness.
Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick said: “Halloween is an opportunity for communities to come together and enjoy the festivities, but it is vital that this is done responsibly and with consideration for others.”
For university students in Bournemouth, many plan to head to the local nightclubs instead of trick or treating in anticipation for the weekend.
In many bars and clubs such as The Old Fire Station and Popworld Bournemouth, tickets have sold out completely, with limited quantities available at the door.
Due to the high demand of nightclubs for this holiday, it is urged to be vigilant on spiking and alcohol safety in vast numbers of people entering the venues.
Many venues in Bournemouth offer anti-spiking cup covers and bottle tops which are advised for staying safe during the events being held tonight.
As well as this, bar staff are trained to identify intoxication and the ‘Ask Angela’ programme, where customers can ask for ‘Angela’ and staff will know they’re in an unsafe situation and alert a manger to remove them from the venue quickly.
These protocols ensure the safety of customers, so if anyone feels in danger, staff will be available to help.
