The Association of Town and City Management has once again awarded Bournemouth the Purple Flag award for a safe, vibrant and diverse night-time economy.

The scheme, similar to the Blue Flag award for well managed beaches, marinas and boats. The Purple Flag recognises excellence in a range of night-time activities from entertainment to dining from 5pm until 5am.

The award also overlooks the management of a town, it’s appeal to the public and their wellbeing.

This years’ submission was proposed by Bournemouth Town Centre BID and was partnered with BCP Council, Dorset Police and Bournemouth University.

Considering Bournemouth’s large concentration of students contributing to the town and its night-time economy, Buzz News walked around campus asking students their opinion on the local night out.

A student from Bournemouth University said: “The nightlife is really good… asides from most places being crowded I feel quite safe.”

However, another student said: “Although there a lot of places we can go but most nights there are people fighting.”

Some of the most common destinations students go include: The Old Firestation, Cameo and Sound Circus.

The fifteenth consecutive win for Bournemouth is a reflection of the towns’ long-term commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and fun night out.
