Businesses in Poole share thoughts on approved Poole Town Council

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council approved Three new town and parish authorities in Bournemouth, Poole and Broadstone this Tuesday.

Mark Howell, councillor for Poole Town, voted in favour of the councils. He said: “BCP Council has been a disaster. The council has been distant from communities in Poole, everything has been too centralised in Bournemouth.”

Local businesses have expressed support for the Poole Town council, concerns about the broadness of BCP Council and a lack of focus on Poole were raised.

Ross Diamond, owner of Waves in Poole, said:  “The council needs a more focus on the town. When BCP Council was formed, you could feel it was too large scale. Poole is a busy and accessible place and always has been.”

The decision has been met with criticism, with a petition against it being started by Bournemouth East MP Tom Hayes.

There has also been a petition calling for a Vote of no confidence for the council leader, which has reached over 900 signatures.

Ian Davies, owner of Loope in Poole, said: “I think its criminal they’re going to impose this. There’s a lot of talk but no actions, I’ve signed an online petition saying no to it.”
