A man from Wales is undertaking an extraordinary challenge, walking the entire UK coastline, with the aim to raise money and awareness for mens mental health.

Setting off from North Wales, Jason Holborn, 54, started in November 2024 with nothing but a backpack and a mission to help people open up about their mental health.

Holborn arrived in Poole on the 15th of October, planning to travel through the BCP area in order to spread his message as well as to aid the homeless.

So far, He has covered over 2,500 miles, with 11,000 more to go He said: “I want everyone to speak about mens mental health, and to take it seriously” Holborn added: “we need to speak up”.

Holborn is supporting the mental health charity SP UK and has so far raised over £2,000 for the charity, however money is not the sole aim for him.

He went on to say “If I can help one person and give them the confidence to speak up then I have reached my goal.”

Suicide remains the leading cause of death for men under 50, according to the national office for statistics in the UK.

Holborn hopes his journey reduces the stigma that surrounds men opening up about their mental health, stating: “a lot of men end up down a dark road that is very hard to get out of and I hope this journey gives them the confidence to open up.”

He expects to finish his walk by 2027, ending were he began in north wales, “Its a long walk, both emotionally and physically, but every step is worth it if I can give one person to the courage to open up.”
