A girl is raising awareness for Breast Cancer after her mother’s heart breaking diagnosis.

Lauren Williams, 20, took part in Cancer Research UK’s ‘Shine Night Walk’ earlier this month.

Her mum, Rachel Williams, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021.

She was one of the 2.3 million women diagnosed with breast cancer, in the UK, according to the NHS.

Lauren took part in the walk to help bring attention to the fact that October is breast cancer awareness month as well as raising money for the charity.

She said: “My mum was diagnosed when I was in secondary school.”

“It was something that I struggled to get my head around at such a young age.”

“I was terrified to loose her and those months were the scariest of my life.”

She walked 10 kilometres with her mum on the ‘Shine Night Walk’ and managed to raise £95.

“It was a proud moment for me to add to such an amazing cause.”

“It’s great that we have a whole month to help raise awareness about breast cancer as it effects so many people.”

According to the NHS, symptoms of breast cancer include: a lump or pain in the breast/armpit or a change in the skin and size of the breast.

Consult a GP if you have any suspicions or worries.
