Influenced by the success of their ‘Minecraft movie’ themed summer event, The Museum of East Dorset helped young children discover art this month, with activities based around the latest blockbuster movie ‘How to Train Your Dragon’.
The art museum focused on building kids’ imagination and creativity through a museum wide treasure hunt, art workshop and an art competition.
Their dragon themed event hoped to leave the children with a new lifelong hobby that allows them to express themselves.
One of the organisers of the ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ workshop explained :“we have an art competition, so every day for two hours we have a workshop which is a drop-in session where children just come and get creative”.
Alongside this, the organisers also contributed to the event by creating a mural that is situated outside the museum: “we have lots of ideas coming together and loads of different volunteers to help come create it”.
According to the museum, the event has helped build a bigger relationship with the local community, giving parents and children an activity to do over the half term in the lead up to Halloween.
Furthermore, their year of child-led activities helped boost visitors from around Dorset, increasing their visibility within the local area.
The Museum of East Dorset started their successful event on the 11th of October with it concluding this Saturday, in preparation for the next two months of their Christmas themed experiences, including a ‘Fused Glass Christmas Decoration’ workshop starting on the 22nd November.
