Dorset disability charity Diverse Abilities raised £12,000 during this year’s Run Bournemouth events last weekend.
Partnered with Run Bournemouth, Diverse Abilities were able to offer ‘free’ spaces to those who wanted to run with the intention of fundraising if they registered through the charity.
The charity had 60 runners fundraise this year, 12 years on from their first Bournemouth runners in 2013.
Fran Potton, Community Fundraiser said: “Every runner had a branded t-shirt so everyone that saw us, saw our name.
As a charity we are continuing to grow which means we need continuous support. Having that amount of runners has been really useful to sharing our name and what we do.”
Funds raised from the half-marathon fall under ‘Diverse Abilities’ Do Something Amazing’ scheme, the charities’ biggest earner.
Through the scheme, people register with the charity before fundraising on their behalf.
Fran Potton said, that the majority of funding comes in the form of sponsorship money rather than charity-led events, with the half-marathon being the highest earner.
Any funds raised will go towards keeping Diverse Abilities’ services running such as their Langside School, children and adult services.
