National Food Day

October 24, 2025 //  by Jamie Speller

Today is National food day, a day to celebrate all the different kinds of cultures and tastes that food has to offer.
It was first launched in 1975 by the CSPI (Centre for Science in the Public Interest) to address concerns about industrial agriculture, rising food prices and diet related health issues.

It ended quite quickly in 1977, before being brought back in 2011.
We asked people what their favourite food was, in particular what Sandwich they like.
There was an array of answers, some including a Phillie Cheese Steak and a sandwich with Onions, Cheese and Pickles.
The most consistent sandwich that was picked however was the classic BLT, Bacon,Lettuce, Tomato.
World recognised actor Larry Lamb got asked the question too, with the Gavin and Stacey star saying that he prefers “Salami, Peppers, Olives and a little bit of Olive oil on top of Ciabatta”.
He described it as the “tastiest thing on Earth”.
A sandwich is just one example showing how many options and choices there are for food, and how lots of people like different things.
If you’re not sure how to celebrate, try exploring new foods, learn about where the food that you eat comes from and maybe even go to a food drive.
