MP for Bournemouth West Jessica Toale held a ‘Safer Community Event’ this morning.
The event was held in three different areas around Bournemouth – Redhill, Slades Farm and Winton.
Jessica Toale urged residents to speak up on any issues and remain vigilant, reporting them to the police.
“Crime and anti-social behaviour are one of my top priorities for the constituency.”
A new investment will see 40 police officers deployed in the Dorset area.
Neighbourhood Officer for Dorset police, Ross said: “You need to report crimes for us to deal with them, every small report helps behind the scenes.”
“Having more officers allows us to concentrate on criminal burglaries, personal robbery, knife crime and community neighbourhood disputes.”
Lots of locals stressed they cannot report crimes due to being unsure of the exact location.
The neighbourhood officers recommended the app ‘What3words’, which takes your location and turns it into three words you can easily pass on to the police or call handler.
Ross said: “Many areas become neglected due to getting callouts into Bournemouth town; more police will mean more time in different areas.”
Lesley Curtis, anti-social behaviour officer, also attended the event, taking queries from the public, helping them navigate issues they may have.
Locals at the event claimed their reports went unnoticed.
Lesley Curtis said: “It’s not that we don’t do anything, but we need time to build evidence.”
“We’re asking you, as a resident and member of the community, if you see the crime, always report it.”
Jessica Toale remains confident in the safety on our streets.
The MP claimed one of the main aims of these events is to help build trust in the police and the council.
