Poole Pirates take on the Redcar Bears tonight in the BSN final after the fixture was cancelled on Wednesday night.

Heavy rain was forecast on Wednesday evening so an executive decision was made to cancel the fixture.

Pirates fan Andy Grape said: “I was gutted that the fixture was cancelled on Wednesday but I am looking forward to seeing the riders hopefully clinch victory tonight.”

It is set to be a thrilling fixture with the Redcar Bears currently sitting just two points ahead of the Pirates after the first leg as they aim to complete the treble.

The pirates also won the treble last year so going back to back would be a monumental effort.

They clinched the British Speedway Championship by three points going undefeated throughout the entire season which was an incredible feat.

Star riders include captain Zach Cook, Richard Lawson and Anders Rowe who have had stellar seasons this year.

Cook has been an incredible captain this year.

Grape said: “Cook has been an incredible captain this year. He is such an assured and bold character and I think he could definitely make the difference tonight.”

Richard Lawson has the most points this season clocking 390 points, the Dorset based team will need every bit of his stellar riding to overturn the two point difference they currently face.

Wimborne Road the home of where the team races will be packed out tonight as thousands of spectators will look to play their part in overturning the deficit.

Every rider will need to get going from the first heat and will be raring to go to secure the historic treble.

Grape added: “To win another treble in back to back years would be incredible for the fans and the team, a testament to all their hard work from the year.”
