Poole Town Host Weymouth in Dorset Derby

Poole town will look to extend their seven game unbeaten run as they host fellow Dorest side, Weymouth, in the Southern League Premier South on Saturday.

The Dolphins have enjoyed an impressive start the season, winning five of their first nine games, only losing one which has rocketed them to third in the table.

Meanwhile Weymouth’s struggles have continued following relegation from the National League South last season. They have only won one of their first nine games back in the seventh tier, however an impressive 4-1 home win against Tiverton last time out could be the spark to kickstart their season.

It’s also been a difficult week off the pitch for the Terras, who’s director Ryan Park resigned with immediate effect, a decision the club announced with ‘regret’.

This followed the news of the sacking of club commentator, Ben Ashelford, after making on-air comments criticising senior members of the board for leaving a game early, before extending an invitation to them to debate with him on a podcast.

On the pitch it’ll be the first meeting between the two sides since 2018/19 season, in which Weymouth were promoted to the National League South as champions. Both encounters that season ended in draws.

Poole Town are favourites heading into the clash, the Dolphins’ new summer signing Shaq Gwengwe has a had a fine start to his campaign scoring 6 goals in 10 league games as he’ll look to add to his tally.

As his opposite number, Tom Bearwish will look to build upon the two goals he scored last time out for Weymouth.

A good crowd is expected for the derby in which will be Poole’s fifth home game of the season.
