Southern Brave women’s captain Georgia Adams says that an auction “won’t have a great impact on this country” after it was announced that the Hundred will switch to one for the upcoming 2026 season.
It was originally a draft format, with teams being able to retain up to 10 players for the past five years.
This has allowed teams such as Oval Invincibles men’s team to win the title in the last three years.
Adams has also shared her frustration on the reduced retention list, saying: “It’s hard when you’re sitting at the top and you’ve got a core group, you want to be looking to stay together”.
Her Southern Brave team had an 100% record in the group stage but lost in the final to the Northern Superchargers.
The auction will have an increased budget, with two million going towards the men’s team and 880,000 to the women’s respectively.
Adams has also been a big advocate for more player control.
She says: “Players want to have some say ideally where there go, especially homegrown players”.
There may be less homegrown players playing in the Hundred however, as teams will now be able to sign four overseas players, compared to three previously.
One cause for this could be down to The Hundred opening up to investment in the summer, with the new owners of the team taking control before the start of the new season.
It’s not been confirmed yet when the auction will take place.
