‘Viral’ bookshop to open in Westbourne

October 10, 2025 //  by Jamie Foulkes

A new 'viral' bookshop is set to open this Saturday

A new ‘viral’ bookshop is set to open in Westbourne arcade this Saturday.

The Mysterious Bookcase started as an online bookshop in 2022 and has more than 40,000 followers on TikTok.

The business began selling a ‘blind date with a book’ online in October 2022, where mystery books would be packaged and sent to buyers.

Announced in July, business owners Ally and Matt are preparing to open this Saturday.

BCP Councillor for Westbourne and Westcliffe, David D’Orton Gibson, said:

“The High Street in any town will be struggling. This is true across the country. Westbourne has proven more resilient than most.”

“Having the bookshop provides more variety in the retail experience. It gives a reason for people to come into Westbourne, increasing footfall.”

The shop will be open every day from 10-5 and has received support from other local businesses.

The Mysterious Bookcase declined to comment on the opening.
