Wimborne, Dorchester and Poole football clubs ‘confident’ after FA Draws

The fixtures for the ISUZU FA Trophy First Round were drawn earlier this week, with three Dorset clubs in the regionalised hat.

Poole Town and Dorchester Town will visit fellow step three sides Plymouth Parkway and Basingstoke Town respectively.

Meanwhile, Wimborne Town will host step four club AFC Portchester.

Wimborne media representative Kyran Rickmann said: “It is a good draw for us as it gives us a good chance of getting through.

“However, they are not to be underestimated after their win against Taunton in the previous round.”

All three sides joined the competition in the third qualifying round, winning their first game in this year’s competition.

Poole came through with a dramatic comeback away at Yate Town.

After going 1-0 down in the 73rd minute, goals from Harvey Slade and Antonio Diaz secured their place in the first-round proper.

Wimborne advanced with a home win against Weymouth, with two goals from Max Bustamante and Josh Carmichael secured them a 2-0 win.

Manager Tim Sills said: “In transition, hitting spaces where they were leaving gaps – Lewis [Williams] with a great ball, Max [Bustamante] on the front foot, good finish.

“It was up to us to find that bit of quality and that was a real moment of it”

Carmichael converted from the spot, saying: “I was looking forward to it to be fair, never really taken a penalty in a game before.”

Despite the lack of match experience, the spot-kick was coolly converted.

Things were much simpler for Dorchester as Tom Killick’s side cruised through with a 4-0 win.

A first-half hattrick from Tom Smith and a goal from Luke Pardoe was more than enough to knock out Bideford AFC.

The round is scheduled to be played on Saturday 25th October, subject to change.
