Homelessness in the Bournemouth area is on the rise.
The BCP council has announced that Winton is among the districts facing this issue.
Located near the high street are several support areas trying to help these individuals sleeping rough and doing their part in creating outreach programs to help not only in Winton but also in the larger Bournemouth area.
Salvation Army, located on Latimer Rd, Winton, provides free showers and care for people without a home every Monday and operates a community cafe providing low-cost meals for those in need of food.
The Hope Community Church, Hawthorn Rd, Winton, provides a volunteer-run space with affordable meals, hot drinks and a safe space for those tackling homelessness, poverty and debt.
A survey sent out to Winton Residents showed that 85% of people are aware of the issues around homelessness in the area.

A Winton local said: “I think it’s sad, because nobody deserves to be homeless and the government isn’t doing enough”
Another resident also said, “With the number of people living on the streets here, it seems like the council is doing nothing to help the ongoing situation.”
This increasing issue is not just in Winton, but all the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area.
One resident said :“I haven’t noticed it in Winton. There are loads of people sleeping on the street in the town centre, but Winton?”
Christchurch Support Kabin is a volunteer-run charity run by Sarah McCowliff, providing a judgment-free space and free food for those in poverty and living on the streets
McCowliff said, “We have been a registered charity for almost 8 years now. “
She continued :“Anybody who is struggling is welcome, for whatever reason, and is given the nutrition they so badly need.”
Christchurch Support Kabin also provide people with clothes, hats, tents and a sense of community.
