Winton residents praise B&M’s replacement of Wilko’s

October 17, 2025 //  by Louie Gueli

Winton locals are in high spirits following B&M’s plans to open a new store on the local high street.

The discount retailer shop, known for its wide range of: homeware, food, cleaning products and seasonal goods, is a top hit for bargain hunters nationwide. B&M currently have three shops across Dorset, and have announced the new store will have its doors open in early 2026.

The announcement comes as Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole council (BCP) approved the planning application back in August this year.
27 year old Winton Resident Andrea Lopez said: “ It’s exciting, a big retailer coming to the high street.”
Mrs Lopez added: “Ever since Wilko’s got closed down it has taken the life out of parts from the high street!”

Mum of three Mandy Willis was delighted ahead of the plans. “With the cost of living always rising lately, it is a lifesaver to have something so cheap a few doors down.”
The 52 year old added: “ It will be so convenient to be able to do my shopping without lugging the kids in the car.”

With B&M’s proposed new opening, some small business owners are more than likely to experience a financial loss as the big wholesaler is sure to bring in thousands of shoppers weekly. With the store planning to open for business early next year it is clear to see that the local residents will welcome this with open arms offering a new lease of life to this little suburb of Dorset.
