Winton could soon have 20mph speed limits under new proposals from Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council.
BCP Council has noted that:
“Winton and the surrounding area currently rank as having the highest number of road accidents in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole”
Over a five-year period, there were 217 casualties from road accidents between 2019-2023.
A public consultation opened on 10th October 2025. It will run until 7th November. The plan would cut speed limits on many residential streets. The aim is to make roads safer, reduce traffic noise, and encourage walking and cycling.
The proposal covers much of the Winton area. If approved, it would bring the neighbourhood in line with other parts of Bournemouth that already have lower limits.
BCP Council said the idea came from local feedback. Many residents raised concerns about safety around schools and busy shopping streets.
People can share their views online at www.bcpcouncil.gov.uk/highwayconsultations. They can also scan a QR code on notices around Winton. All responses must include the reference number S112.
The consultation is open to residents, businesses and other road users. Comments can support or object to the plan. All submissions must be received by 7th November.
Council officers will review the feedback before making a final decision later this year. If the plan goes ahead, 20mph signs could be installed early in 2026.
The council says the changes would create calmer streets and safer routes for people walking, cycling or driving through Winton, as well as children travelling to and from school.
