AFC Bournemouth Women’s captain Abby Jones has launched a new coaching academy aimed at developing local young footballers.
Jones, who has been with the Cherries for 9 years, decided to challenge herself by taking up a coaching role.
Speaking on her new endeavour, Jones said: “I really wanted to start working 1-1 and focus on the technical aspect of football. I felt it was important to challenge myself as this is something I haven’t done before, taking time to plan sessions is something I take great pride in.
“My coaching academy will be unique as I think it’s important that people get to be coached by someone who has been successful. I take great pride in knowing I can influence so many young individuals,” Jones added.
Jones hopes her profession can be vital towards her coaching, by highlighting that her journey to becoming captain of AFCB Women could help give others confidence.
Jones said: “I am very lucky to be a role model to so many, especially young people who may aspire to be in the same position as me.
“I think it’s really important to have female role models to show that females can be good at sport and do anything they can put their mind to. I’m lucky enough to have played under loads of experienced coaches which I take knowledge and session ideas from.
“I have seen the growth of women’s football for the past 9 years whilst being at AFCB Women, so I’m very grateful to know that nothing is just given and if you want something you need to work for it.”
Jones’ academy will focus on 1-1 and small group coaching, bringing years of elite-level experience to many local children.
