Self-proclaimed “Dirty Pop” band Adult Leisure brought their brand-new album ‘The Things You Don’t Know Yet’ to the Bear Cave in Bournemouth last week.
The Bristol-based musicians filled the dark basement venue with their new wave-esque sound from the get-go.
Speaking after the gig, drummer Nathan Searle explained the influences behind the album, mentioning surprising names like the hip-hop group Young Fathers alongside pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter.
Vocalist Neil Scott said the message behind their album is mainly “working through trauma” – an idea that is clear throughout, with track names like ‘Heartbreaker’ and ‘Thing You Don’t Know Yet’.
When prompted to give some inspirational words to artists about to release their debut albums, the band agreed on the message: “Be yourself and chase the dream, not the competition.”
Additionally, they mentioned how important it is to not look at other bands, a notion Adult Leisure clearly takes to heart with their “Dirty Pop” debut album.
Following their debut tour, Adult Leisure is one to keep an eye on, bringing a refreshing sound to British music with planned shows in Bath and Norwich in 2026.
