Transgender awareness is a one-week celebration running from the 13th of November until the 19th.

Bournemouth’s LGBTQ+ nightclub DYMK, is opening it’s doors for everyone to go in and be their authentic selves in a safe space.

The venue on Poole Hill is a huge success with the LGBTQ+ community being the main hotspot in the town.

A spokesperson for DYMK, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “We treat everyone equally and don’t label people.

“We welcome all but don’t celebrate Trans week as we welcome trans people 365 days a year.”

Transgender awareness week is being celebrated by many organisations across Bournemouth including the University, Littledown Surgery and the Inclusive Community Church on Hannington Road.

The highly celebrated week is followed by the Transgender Day of Remembrance on the 20th of November to memorialise those who have lost their lives because of anti-transgender violence and discrimination.

During this important week, DYMK has made sure everyone feels protected.

The spokesperson said: “We are now in our 15th year of business, and we continue to welcome everyone for a great night out regardless of age, colour, religion, shape, size or sexual orientation.”

During the week, it is encouraged to speak out and seek guidance with any worries.

Hotlines such as Mind and the LGBT Foundation are available to reach out to, to prevent feeling alone.
