Sophie Northover, Bridport FC midfielder, has received an FA grant to complete coaching courses while managing a persistent knee injury that limits her playing time.

In recent years, Sophie has undergone surgery and multiple treatments, but without full recovery she’s turned toward coaching as a way to stay involved in the game.

She admitted, “It’s been a bit of a rubbish time with my knee injury, I always try to commit to playing but sometimes I can’t.”

The injury struck just before the COVID-19 pandemic, and she shared the frustration of wanting to play but being held back, “when you’re ready and wanting to play but your knee doesn’t let you, it’s one of the worst things.”

With support from Bridport and funding from a recently approved FA grant, Northover is currently completing a four-week online course to gain her Level 1 coaching badge.

Sophie hopes to continue playing with Bridport for as long as possible, “that’s my main priority, but once I’m done playing, I can look at helping out with the youngsters too.”
