England and Hampshire cricketer Maia Bouchier believes that the Three Lions have a great shot to stand triumphant in the Ashes for the first time in Australia since the 2010-11 series.

This Ashes series will be a crucial test for England’s aggressive Bazzball brand of cricket, having last won the prized urn in 2015 on home soil.

Ahead of the series opener, Southern Brave batter Bouchier believes that this England side have a chance to make history down under.

I think that this England team have the best opportunity in years to win the Ashes in Australia

She said: “I think that this England team have the best opportunity in years to win the Ashes in Australia, especially with how settled they seem with the batting unit.”

England’s batting lineup features both the first and second-best current Test batters, with Joe Root and Harry Brook sitting at the top of the ICC World Rankings.

The Yorkshire duo will be looking to carry this form into the Ashes with them, however, Joe Root has never scored a Test century in Australia.

Bouchier added: “There’s been a lot of noise around Root and centuries in Australia, I’d love to see him finally break past that barrier.”

The Ashes starts next Friday with the first Test beginning on 21 November at Perth’s Optus Stadium and the fifth and final test concluding on 7 January in Sydney, where England will be hoping to end the series as victors.
