The Bournemouth Poppies, who play in the Wessex league, have begun advertising to students through social media and flyers to bring more University students to matches.
The club are keen to introduce a student discount in support of the campaign by slashing the current cost of tickets at Victoria Park from £7 to £4.
Bournemouth Poppies captain Tyrone Carkeet has spoken on the matter: “When I was a student, it was good to go watch local teams because of the social aspect. I have been here a while, and I think the attraction to the Uni has gotten better.”
The club believes that it is more than just ticket sales; it is about making a stronger connection with students.
Bournemouth Poppies manager Phil Brown explains: “We want bigger crowds. Hopefully I can speak to Bob (the owner) and we can do a promotion on the drinks to get more people in. The students create a great atmosphere, and the support is important to the team.”
The last match played at Victoria Park was against East Cowes in the Wessex League, with the outcome being a goalless draw.
New data provided from the recent fixture shows the match attendance, finding that students made up just six percent of the matches attendance.
The Poppies media manager John McKay spoke on how he will advertise for students: “I already make posts on our social platforms. We got fifty thousand views on reels last month, which is really good for the level we play at, so will make content that can appeal to the students.”
