No ‘Cupset’ as Hamworthy exit last remaining cup

Hamworthy United’s 2-1 loss to division higher Sherborne Town, in the Dorset Senior Cup, Wednesday night means that the Hammers are out of all remaining cups for the 2025/26 season.

The 2005/06 winners travelled away to the two time winners in what was a familiar affair.

Sherborne and Hamworthy had met in the FA Vase just three weeks ago, in what was a 3-0 victory to the higher ranked side.

This time, however, Hamworthy did give themselves a good account, equalising in the first half and forcing the Sherborne goalkeeper into a red card.

Ultimately though, it wasn’t enough as Sherborne’s Ollie Hebbard scored what would be the decisive goal in the 55th minute.

With all cups out the way, Hamworthy will now turn full focus onto their league campaign.

The team currently sit 12th in Wessex Division One, but with a few games in hand a playoff push or further isn’t off the cards.

Sherborne meanwhile can enjoy upcoming fixtures in two different cup competitions.
